Once complete they premiered the commercials at the premiere party 2012 Touchstone Health Commercials premiere party. Touchstone Health staff and the Toucsthone Health members who participated in the filming of the commericals came together to view the new commercials at a local health fair in Staten Island, New York. New York City Seniors Swing Into Action

Touchstone Health continues to offer New York City seniors plenty of activities at community senior centers, such as the popular game of Wii bowling. This spring, senior citizens from numerous NYC neighborhoods in Brooklyn, the Bronx, and Queens, have been throwing strikes and picking up spares while getting in shape. In addition to providing a great workout, the virtual bowling events bring seniors in the community together for a fun and interactive experience.

"Nintendo Wii bowling simulates the sport and is controlled by players' motions and movements. It gives senior citizens a great workout when they play friendly games with their peers," says Touchstone Health’s Queens Community Representative Windy Long. "The Wii bowling events also create social interaction among seniors in the community."

Many of Touchstone Health's energetic members played in Touchstone Health's fun and exciting city-wide Wii Bowling Tournament last fall. Participants say playing the virtual bowling game makes them feel more young at heart and helps them connect with the younger generation.

Seen here are happy Wii bowling participants at Robert Couche Senior Center in Jamaica, NY, and Peter Dellamonica Senior Center in Astoria, NY.

On June 24th- at 1pm Robert Couche SC, Elmcor SC, Alpha Phi Alpha SC and Rochdale Village SC will compete at the Rochdale SC after long weeks of Wii Bowling training. We hope the 4 competing Senior Centers will forge lasting friendships and enjoy the "healthy" competition. Wish them luck!!

Brooklyn Seniors Experience Domino Effect

Touchstone Health members and other senior citizens in the community meet regularly to play domino games at Cypress Hills Senior Center in Brooklyn, NY. A popular pastime, domino games allow older adults to participate in a challenging, yet enjoyable group activity.

Dominoes is considered a strategy game and can sometimes become moderately competitive. Seniors benefit because domino games promote social interaction and stimulate the brain by enhancing analytical thinking.

Touchstone Health presents a broad range of free community events, including domino games, which encourage senior citizens to enjoy an active lifestyle and engage with members of their community.

For more information on Brooklyn Events, contact Touchstone Health’s Brooklyn Community Representative Franchesca Feliciano at 917.640.2774, ffeliciano@touchstoneh.com.

Bronx Seniors Compete and Have Fun at Touchstone Health-Sponsored Pool Tournament

CEO Bryan D. Birch was in attendance to cheer on the participants

More than 25 senior citizens took part in a friendly, yet competitive, billiards tournament on April 28, 2011 in The Bronx, NY. The pool games featured some lively action as Touchstone Health members and senior center regulars were vying for the title as the ‘best pool player’ at Rain Boston East Senior Center.

Trophies were presented to the first, second and third place winners. Touchstone Health CEO Bryan D. Birch and Touchstone community representatives were on hand to cheer the players on and congratulate the winners.

The pool tournament was part of an ongoing series of healthy aging events offered by Touchstone Health HMO that promotes an active, fit, and social lifestyle for seniors. The competition gave participants another opportunity to socialize with companions and a chance to meet new friends. Billiards offers many great health benefits and requires a great deal of strategic thinking. Pool playing seniors can improve hand-eye coordination, focus, concentration, cognition, and balance.

Wii Bowling Tournament is Happening Now, Winners to be Announced In October

Touchstone donated the Wii Consoles to the senior centers. The goal of these events is to get seniors to participate in light physical activity through Wii Bowling and have fun with their peers.

Wii Bowling is a low impact activity that allows players to mimic the movements of actual bowling. It gives participants a sense of enthusiasm and rejuvenation – making them feel young again. With players standing or sitting in front of a screen that appears as a bowling lane, the game is open to anyone to play.

The Touchstone Health Wii events have allowed many seniors to participate in an activity they may have never tried before; while others have enjoyed sharing memories of hitting the real bowling alleys over the years.

Here are some photos of seniors playing the games at their centers. Be sure to check out www.TouchstoneH.com for additional photos from the events.
